What is the difference between a 'spray tan' and an 'airbrush tan'?

The terms 'spray tan' and 'airbrush tan' are the same. At Beautylase our spray tans are airbrushed on. We use an extremely powerful air condenser to deliver a seamless mix of solution and air through a mist for immaculate and light coverage resulting in minimal residue on the skin.

'Airbrush' can also be 'paint brush', and this is where the magic comes into play: we can airbrush a little darker on the line right above and between the chest lines to create an illusion of volume and cleavage. By spraying a little more on the existing shadows, we can also tone up legs and sculpt arms in an instant! We can go a little darker around the jaw-line to slim down your face and emphasise cheek-bones.

Will I go orange?

No, not unless you tamper with your tan using inferior retail products. An 'orange' tan is usually the result of excessive use of cheaper products with lower and uneven DHA concentrations. Our solution contains 16% DHA that bypasses any potential for an 'orange' reaction and turns the skin brown.

When should I have a spray tan?

We recommend a day before or 12 hours before an event. You can have the spray tan anytime in the day but bear in mind that the solution must be left on the skin for a minimum of 3 hours for any effect. If you are having a spray tan before a day at work, bear in mind that a bra strap could leave a mark.

What shall I wear?

Loose clothing such as a waist-less dress and sandals. In winter, try a tracksuit and trainers or Ugg-type loose boots. Avoid skinny jeans.

I'm really busy. How much time do I need to book out?

The actual spraying takes five minutes and we recommend a couple minutes under a fan before getting dressed again. At Beautylase, we schedule 15 minutes from start to finish.

Do I need to shower before?

Ideally yes, but many clients pop in after work and do not have time. Our best advice it to avoid coming with too much moisturiser on your skin. Spray tanning can be applied on a lightly made-up face but if you are going to bed with it on, we do advise that you wipe off foundation prior to your spray tan. Personal care products are available for you to freshen up prior to treatment and you will be provided with disposable underwear.

Can I go out as soon as I have it done?

Yes, our airbrush tan system means that the solution is applied onto the skin as a really fine mist. Unlike a 'rub-on' treatment you will instantly look really good. Yes, you can apply foundation on top of a spray tan but we recommend you ask one of our make-up artists to assist you as this must be done with a light touch. We usually use the Dior Airflash Foundation that sprays on giving a flawless look with just a simple spray (subject to function of operator availability).
