Pale skin Sensitive to sun. Always burns and finds it difficult to tan. Very little melanin II Ideal conditions for IPL/laser hair removal Difficult as the the hair does not contain much melanin
Medium to fair Senstive to sun. Burns but eventually gets a tan. Some melanin III Ideal conditions for IPL/laser hair removal Difficult as the the hair does not contain much melanin
Mediterranean skin or Matte skin Little or no sensitivity to the sun Moderate amount of melanin IV Ideal conditions for IPL/laser hair removal Difficult as the the hair does not contain much melanin
Darker skin, Asian skin or mixed race skin No sensitivity to the sun Plenty of melanin V Darker skin is treated with prudence. Treatment is still possible but may take longer.
