When the person writing these notes first moved to the UK, she was amazed at how difficult it was to get a good wax. Moreover, hardly any salons offered “hot wax” or “hard wax” as it is known.
This is the sort of wax that sets on the skin and hardens before it is flicked off the skin and with it the unwanted hair. It is less painful than strip waxing as it sticks to the hair and not the skin.
Another infuriating discovery was that many salons that claimed to offer Brazilian waxing only waxed the front and the top of the pubic area leaving all the inbetween/round the back bits unattended. What to do?
Well, we got a couple wax pots together, bought some beds and started training… four years later, we have cornered the market in Brazilian and Hollywood waxing in the area.
What is the difference between a regular Bikini,
a Hollywood and a Brazilian Wax?
A regular bikini wax removes everything that would normally stick out of a bikini in function of your taste.
Whilst Stateside, the term “Brazilian” can mean either “everyting off” or the “landing strip”, the British like to differentiate : Hollywood leaves you with nothing there and Brazilian leaves you a little bit more there – even if it really is a very little bit.
How much hair you wish to remain is up to you but everything comes off the bits that are embarrassing to mention… round the back.
At Beautylase, we pride ourselves on offering very thorough waxing. We have done over 10, 000 Brazilian waxes since opening in 2005 and have gained a good reputation.
Whilst we may not be the cheapest, we certainly provide our clients with a quality treatment.
How long does the hair have to be?
If you have been using a razor or depilatory creams, then we ask you to wait until the hair is almost 1 centimetre long.
If you are a regular waxer, then we can work on 5mm.
We are all different and growth varies in function of many factors such as whether or not you have been waxing for a long time, if you are fair, or if your hair is coarse/fine... In any case, we expect you to be hair free for at least one week after your bikini/brazilian/hollywood wax.
How often should I come?
We advise you to come in every 3 to 5 weeks. Once you start waxing, please try to resist the temptation to shave or use depilatory creams in between. This will only make hair growth stronger and faster with you losing all the benefits of your wax. Please ask reception or look in the website on reductions on multiple treatments. How can I avoid ingrown hairs?
We recommend using a good exfoliator for the first week after a wax to keep the hair shaft open. The Clarins Smoothing Body Scrub is our faviourite as the granules are small enough to exfoliate on a micro level.
Should the problem persist, then we recommend looking at the more permanent option of IPL Laser Hair Removal. Link
How hygienic is the treatment?
Your therapist will be wearing gloves and the bedding is changed for every client. Wax is thrown away and not recycled, and the spatulas are only used once. You will be provided with personal care products to freshen up and disposable paper undies to wear. At Beautylase, we also disinfect the floor and door handles between each treatment to ensure a sanitised environment for both our staff and our clients.
Modesty
Don't be embarrassed, we do this every day. Your therapist will let you get ready by yourself in a private room. You will also be provided with personal care products to freshen up and disposable undies to wear. Please do not be embarrassed. If you are menstruating, you must wear appropriate sanitary protection (tampon). You will not be asked to adopt any strange positions and you will be amazed at how nimble we can be with a spatula. Before you know it, you will be fuzz free without a sticky residue and with minimal discomfort.
